Do you belong to a private country club?

Golden asked:

What activities, besides golf, tennis, or swimming, draws you to the club? Happy Hours? Themed parties? Children’s activities? What’s the best thing your club has done recently? (In this area) Thanks.

No. Never will. Public courses only. I feel it is a waste of money.

If you have the money, it is well worth the investment. I find that if you’re able to find a club where the general membership has an average age near yours the experience will be more beneficial. If the average age of the members is in the 60’s you’re going to have event themed more towards that age group. If you can find one in your area that is more family-oriented it can be a better experience.

One of the greatest things I’ve identified as a golfer is that your not pressured to play a certain speed. I’m a low-handicapper and I play pretty fast. If I want to skip around holes and play just a couple, i don’t worry about “getting my money’s worth.” Also, you’re able to go out and play in a group with only a few people i.e., you don’t have to play in a ******** if you don’t want. The club I belong to offers a number of children’s events as well as a golf and swim team in the summer. I think the positives far outweigh the negative stigma some may offer in response to hearing you “belong to a club.” If you have the available money and you think it may be something you’re entire family would enjoy look into it.

    General note:
    1) Financially a club will cost you more than you may plan. Members are often assessed several thousand dollars annually for new projects to the club.
    2) Join and equity member club (this is a club in which as a member you own part of. Joining one that is run by a company can often result in cost cutting which results in a less than steller club)

I do. They have swimming pool that no one use. No Tennis course. No Happy hours, no parties no children games. But, they are the top three green keeping coditions in the country I’m in, with 36 holes, great fairway with Bent Grass, and green with Bermuda Grass and great locker rooms.

The other club I’m also membered to has one of the most difficult greens to putt, and very very long holes; like 650 yards par five from Pro tee. I play this club to feel better when I play the other.
